Abstract. The article examines changes in the investment priorities of BP, Shell, TotalEnergies and Equinor in 2022–2026. The study proceeds from the assumption that the energy crisis and changing geopolitical conditions did not eliminate long-term decarbonization goals but substantially altered corporate capital allocation. Using annual reports, strategic documents and investor materials, the paper compares capital expenditure, oil and gas and LNG investment, low-carbon spending, production targets and climate commitments. The findings indicate that the strengthening of the hydrocarbon component followed different paths: from the most pronounced strategic reorientation at BP to the balanced multi-energy model of TotalEnergies. Shell pursued a selective concentration on the most commercially attractive segments, especially LNG, while Equinor revised its renewable ambitions and retained power as a strategic business. The article concludes that post-2022 changes are better described as a rebalancing of investment priorities than as a complete retreat from the energy transition, driven by energy security, returns and capital discipline.
Keywords: energy transition, decarbonization, investment policy, oil and gas companies, BP, Shell, TotalEnergies, Equinor, LNG, energy security, capital discipline.
