<abstract xml:lang="ru">

The article examines noise pollution as a socio-environmental phenomenon of the contemporary urban environment. It outlines key theoretical approaches to the study of urban noise, its main sources, and the effects of acoustic load on residents’ well-being, emotional state, and everyday comfort. The empirical basis of the study is a pilot online survey conducted in 2025 in Moscow and the Moscow region; after initial data processing, the analysis included 138 respondents. The findings show that urban noise is experienced not as a set of isolated disturbances, but as a persistent background condition of everyday life, most acutely affecting rest, sleep, and psychological recovery. It is demonstrated that the most disturbing sounds are not necessarily the most common ones, but rather those that are unpredictable and difficult to control, such as construction noise, nighttime motorcycles, shouting, and neighbor noise. The study also reveals that a significant proportion of residents live in acoustically vulnerable housing, where the boundaries of private space are permeable to sounds from both the street and adjacent apartments. It is concluded that noise constitutes an important factor in the decline of urban quality of life and should be considered not only as a sanitary or environmental issue, but also as a social problem.
